Speaking of Danes

While I'm on this Danish tangent, I might as well mention a really cool style blog devoted entirely to bicycle style on the streets of Copenhagen. After witnessing this fervent biking culture firsthand this past summer on my first trip to Copenhagen, I was truly mesmerized. Especially since women wear anything and everything on their bike. Stilettos, ultra tight miniskirt, you name it. So here are a few shots from this super cool blog, which focuses mainly on Copenhagen but also showcases "bicycle chic" in other cities as well: copenhagencyclechic

I saw a girl biking in Portland a couple days ago wearing duck boots. Try to imagine it because I wasn't fast enough for a picture. It looked great!

just a nice picture...

..of someone with really great hair. also from copenhagenstreetstyle. love those Danes.

coffee and tea maker

As the season of gift-giving is upon us, i saw this coffeemaker and matching tea-maker (didn't know there was such a thing) and loved them instantly. They are similar to the Jasper Morrison for Rowenta series that was discontinued (because of poor performance, I think) so hopefully these function well in addition to looking good. They are from Plus Minus Zero, designed by Naoto Fukasawa and can be bought here at twentytwentyone.

big-a** scarves

Scarves are all over the place. I can't seem to feel comfortable without one, Summer or Winter. But perusing copenhagenstreetstyle today I couldn't help but be overcome by the sheer volume, and not to mention coziness, of the scarves being sported.
Furthermore, it seems like the scarf is much more than just an accessory in these outfits but instead the anchor of the entire outfit. The sweater, jacket and/or dress is there to complement the enormous scarf and not the other way around. In fact the scarves almost look like a soft, malleable sweater that has been stretched and wrapped snugly around the neck. Leave it to the Danes to take it to the extreme.

my favorite mag

There's nothing I enjoy more than looking through magazines. Especially when it's one of my favorites. Jalouse is definitely one of the best. Unfortunately it is en francais, which is the main reason I don't think it gets more attention. The fashion spreads are always beautiful and very different from anything you'd ever see in Vogue (French or American) and the accessories spreads are to die for. Plus they always have a cool music issue that is full of unknown European artists.

I just saw that they have a pretty cool blog/website: jalougallery. Also in French, unfortunately! But worth looking at for the pictures, at the very least. And I think if you've taken a least a couple years of any Romance language, you can figure out what the main points are. I could always make my way through Italian Vogue despite never studying Italian. (Example: "Ungaro: un desastre" -- easy enough to translate that one!)

However the print issue of Jalouse is definitely worth seeking out. Even the ads are worth looking at.

liquid leggings - for KIDS!

Not to give too much credit to celebrities and their stylists but 3-year-old Suri Cruise tipped me off on this one. Liquid leggings have been in for a while now. Even becoming somewhat mainstream. Now they are available for the toddler set. And for only $25! So cute!

Realistically they are probably quite slippery for those still toddling around and definitely not the most breathable fabric. Very chic nonetheless.

Available here.

black outfit, brown boots

something else i've started seeing lately (or maybe just started feeling) is the brown with black combination. a totally black outfit -- the kind that is de rigeur in New York or London -- black jeans, black or otherwise dark-colored top, black coat...and then historically it has always been paired with black shoes/boots or maybe grey or even dark brown. and then all of a sudden i am seeing brown boots, like TAWNY brown, combined with a head-to-toe black look. the contrast is startling yet very fresh.

I had been thinking the brown/black thing subconsciously. have even been wearing dark brown boots with black jeans myself, wondering why i kept doing it. and then saw the picture below online and the thought finally came to life.

and of course it's not a trend until you see Kate Moss sporting it.
