Michelle Williams: breakup style
I was very sad to hear yesterday that Michelle Williams and Jason Segel broke up. I am not the biggest fan of his movies but it's hard not to want the ultimate happiness for her. Between her real-life tragic history and what played out on-screen in Blue Valentine, I will always pull for her. So this week, let's talk about her amazing style of late while she's on her Oz press tour.
1 - the Dior coat-dress worn to Letterman
2 - Backstage at Letterman. I LOVE this look. This complete outfit is apparently all available at Totokaelo. The scarf by Yohji Yamamoto is unfortunately sold out but his scarves are amazing. One of these days I am going to invest in one. And the coat is an all-leather parka made in Japan and sets you back 4 figures, by Sisii.
By the way, she makes wayfarers look timeless. She must be the only celebrity with one pair of sunglasses.
3 - even the Victoria Beckham dress worn today in Moscow
Here's hoping you find your happiness some day soon, Michelle.

Etoile Isabel Marant Odrys Cardigan
This sweater has been stalking me. First it showed up at Odessa in Portland and promptly sold out in my size (although I was all tied up with Dicker boots and not able to purchase at that time). Then Totokaelo in Seattle received it in two colors and was sold out of both within one day.
I had gotten over it and was almost okay with it when while perusing PopSugar saw a picture of Michelle Williams wearing it at JFK, and then I fell in love all over again.
And have been obsessing about it since then (that was last week). I emailed several boutiques including Misch in Vancouver only to find out that they had sold out but was I interested in the new style in the same intarsia pattern, the Obira. Hmmm, a little too floppy for my taste.
Then two days ago, my friend Roberta over at Camp Comfort blogged about it. And then I knew I'd regret it if I didn't buy it.
Not only is it an amazing intarsia knit but here in Portland, this kind of heavy cardigan functions as a coat for me for more than half of the year. Luckily, I found one size 34 at Barneys in Chicago yesterday. (yes, only one left nationwide!)
And by the way the pattern comes in two other silhouettes as well:
the Ouda, a crewneck, and the Ojima, a hoody. Both are available at Creatures of Comfort:
If I had endless funds or was a celebrity, I would definitely snap up the crew neck. It looked amazing styled for NYC boutique Maryam Nassir Zadeh as seen on the blog, the marant philes:

Oscars - my best dressed
Jessica Chastain looked amazing in this Alexander McQueen dress that most likely looked a little scary on the rack. And loved that she wore her hair down. My best dressed.
My number two of the night was definitely Milla Jovovich in Elie Saab Couture.
And while I don't think I would ever wear this dress, as an overall look Michelle Williams killed it in Louis Vuitton (although I could've done without the bow detail on the waist).
My honorable mention went to Rooney Mara in Givenchy couture. I do agree that it could've been tailored better for her, as many have commented. The back of the dress is nonetheless stunning.
As for Gwyneth Paltrow and her Tom Ford cape-dress -- I thought it was kind of adventurous but not really. Of all the dresses in the world...and she wears a cape?

black with brown again
Another black outfit paired with brown shoes (see Kate Moss post from October). This time by the flawless Michelle Williams while strolling in Brooklyn with her daughter. And the brown oxfords she's sporting look very similar to the J.Crew ones spotlighted in an earlier post. I also love Michelle's long peacoat. The extra wide collar and the shiny brass buttons combined with the longer length are great updates on a wardrobe staple.
