Cannes and Carey Mulligan

1 - Dior at the premiere of Gatsby

This year at the Cannes Film Festival almost everybody looked absolutely stunning on the red carpet but none more so than Carey Mulligan.  I recently saw Baz Luhrmann's adaptation of "The Great Gatsby." While I didn't love the film, the imagery was amazing, as was Carey Mulligan's place - as Daisy Buchanan - in the glorious images. And I thought she brought a bit of that same magic and sleekness to her looks at Cannes, and she had quite a few of them with two films to promote. Every outfit was simple and stunning. And her super bleached, yet simple hair made every look. I also really liked how each hairstyle has a strong part, even if her hair is worn up.

3 - Chloe dress at photocall for "Inside Llewyn Davis"

4 - this Vionnet gown in my opinion is the best

Michelle Williams: breakup style

I was very sad to hear yesterday that Michelle Williams and Jason Segel broke up. I am not the biggest fan of his movies but it's hard not to want the ultimate happiness for her. Between her real-life tragic history and what played out on-screen in Blue Valentine, I will always pull for her.  So this week, let's talk about her amazing style of late while she's on her Oz press tour.

1 - the Dior coat-dress worn to Letterman

2 - Backstage at Letterman. I LOVE this look. This complete outfit is apparently all available at Totokaelo. The scarf by Yohji Yamamoto is unfortunately sold out but his scarves are amazing. One of these days I am going to invest in one. And the coat is an all-leather parka made in Japan and sets you back 4 figures, by Sisii.

By the way, she makes wayfarers look timeless. She must be the only celebrity with one pair of sunglasses.

3 - even the Victoria Beckham dress worn today in Moscow

Here's hoping you find your happiness some day soon, Michelle.

the Met Ball

Clean and simple: Emma Stone in Lanvin (the pic of her with Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz was adorable) and Amber Valletta in Prada. One of many in Prada because of the new exhibit and, I have to say, I like hers the best.
All Covered Up: Mary-Kate Olsen in The Row, this look is pretty shocking and monastic, it's true.  But considering how tiny she is, it fit her very well and her trashy, bleached her is a great contrast to the stark dress. Kirsten Dunst sort of looked like a '30s librarian in her Rodarte ensemble (it's not even a dress!) but I still loved it. And love her pose! As much as people made fun of Angelina at the Oscars, she has started a red carpet trend of having a pose to match your outfit.

Silver Sirens: Camilla Belle in Ralph Lauren collection (I thought this was Versace) - I didn't love this dress but I liked her whole look with the hair pulled back and the dark lipstick. Lana del Rey really vamped it up in this sparkly number by Joseph Altazurra. And yes, Gwyneth did the cape first, but it must be said, capes look better in black.

Bangs with Black: Liv Tyler, I'm just happy to see you. No really, her Givenchy dress was really stunning. Liked it better than Rooney Mara's dress from the same fashion house. Marion Cotillard looked like the Frenchie she is in head-to-toe Christian Dior. Many at the met ball did the sheer skirt look but hers was the most interesting.
