steven alan summer dresses

sometimes i find Steven Alan stuff a little too boring or maybe because in NYC it's so ubiquitous, a veritable uniform for some. i have a few pieces but have never been a big fan. well for summer there are quite a few fun, flirty dresses on their site that are rather affordable compared with everything else I've have my eye on (uh, like Isabel Marant).

Petiole Dress - $195

I'm obsessed with navy right now. anything in navy looks so fresh, especially worn with black. The petiole dress would look great with a simple black cardigan and black Worishofer slingbacks.

Fairchild Dress - $248

This print is amazing. Busy and colorful without being too much. The silhouette comes in solid colors also and doesn't look nearly as good as in this fun paisley.

Gaby Dress - $248

Loving the one-shoulder, especially because EVERYONE is doing stripes. And yeah they are great but it's nice to see them refreshed.

Spring Vivian Dress - $298

I love the scoopneck on this dress and the print that looks like it belongs on a tie. The vivian dress also comes in a bright orange, which with the right accessories (and right skin tone) could look amazing.

Rachel Comey - Bimini Boot

I love the new Rachel Comey Bimini boot. The blunt toe combined with the laces and ankle strap with cutout almost seems too much but they work perfectly. And the seventies flared wood heel is my new favorite. I hope she uses it in her fall footwear collection as well. They are $404 at Totokaelo.

Isabel Marant obsessed

Screen shot 2011-03-03 at 9.38.17 PM
The spring/summer Isabel Marant collection is one of her best by far. I have been coveting nearly every single piece but have yet to buy anything. I am totally in love with the Rolf sweater in red from the Etoile line ($400) and was super annoyed to see Kate Bosworth arriving at LAX last week wearing it...AND with an enormous Isabel Marant shopping bag IN the airport.

THEN she shows up walking around LA the very next day in the exact same sweather in a different color!!

It's hard not to hate her.

(P.S. The sweater also comes in a cardigan version with zip, which might actually be more practical. I'm going to Odessa in Portland this week to check it out.)

if only...

My friend Marti blogged recently about all of the items she would buy with infinite means. It got me thinking about the handbag that has been foremost in my mind although furthest from reality: Sofia Coppola for Louis Vuitton. This is one of the promotional photos on the LV website, no doubt shot by Sofia herself. I love the cobalt but would take any color...IF that is I could afford the absurd $4000 price tag!! Even if I could, spending that much on a bag sort of makes my head spin (especially without some CCs on it). Doesn't make it any less pretty though.

Sofia's muse Kirsten Dunst has been out and about in LA sporting it.

And then the director/designer herself at NYFW with Kirsten of course but luckily Kiki brought a different bag.

It's a really simply designed bag but like Sofia herself (and her movies) the simplicity of the design is what makes it. Would love to see it in person.

Also, check out what my friend Marti is dreaming of.

want: MM6 legging

Some amazing leggings just popped up on Creatures of Comfort. MM6 with an allover striped juxtaposed geometrically as if they were cut up and re-attached. A perfect legging to put together with simple dresses or wear as pictures with pop colors shoes. And kind of a steal at $135...I bet these sell out quickly.

And speaking of the shoes, from the Spring/Summer Woman by Common Projects, the red slip-on oxfords are just beyond words. I would like to look around and see if they come in black or maybe navy. As much as I love the red, I know they would be much more versatile in a darker color, especially because they are pretty pricey at $449.
