Fall Wish List

Sorry for the summer of no posting. Bought quite a few amazing things this summer. Will be putting together a retrospective. In lieu of that, I'm presenting my Fall list of wishes:

Objects without Meaning - I am loving this line and just purchased the Boy jean from Frances May. Now I have my eye on the OM hi-rise skinny:
I love this top, also from Objects without Meaning:

It's hard to not want a couple things from Rachel Comey, however out-of-reach they are. This jumpsuit is sold out almost everywhere despite the $645 price tag:
This RC turtleneck sweater is beautiful and something I'd have for years. Similarly pricey at $472. Both the jumpsuit and the sweater are made in NYC so that's something to consider with the price.

This list of course would not be complete without a couple items from my friends at No.6. I am loving the new platform base - tried it on while in NYC in july and thought it was much more wearable than i would have imagined, more comfortable even than the high heel or high wedge. I am inclined toward these pretty ones in the amazing new color Fawn:
And I have been on the hunt for a nice pair of wide-leg pants. These No.6 pants are really more palazzo pants but i am still thinking about it. They are at totokaelo:

And I love the new plaids from Creatures of Comfort's fall line, especially this dress available at Bird.

I tried the top version on when I was at Frances May but the fit wasn't for me. It's a great top though and I love the plaid flannel:

More to come soon... I have some bags I am eyeing as well.

Back Blogging: Isabel Marant Dempster / Delma Coat

Isabel Marant's SS2014 collection is Japan-inspired and I sort of forgot about this when I was in Seattle over the holidays. While shopping at Totokaelo, I browsed through the IM rack only to spot a very puffy looking kimono-style patchwork coat. Where did this come from? Oh right - Spring product is already here. I instantly moved on and did not even indulge myself enough to try it on --also because I am well aware of my own limitations. Trying it on is akin to purchasing. And since my New Year's resolution involved spending less money on clothes and shoes, ignoring amazing Isabel Marant pieces seemed kind of an essential part of keeping that resolution.

Which would have been no problem - except this coat is now turning up on everyone. Truly - Emmanuelle Alt is kind of everyone. And then when I see the image on Pinterest over and over, rubbing it in and then even on everywoman street style shots from Garance Dore...somehow next step is me filling daydreams with how to justify it.  So to try to keep my resolution or at least to make myself blog more, this week I'll be posting my spring IM want list, the Delma / Dempster Isabel Marant Etoile coat included (By the way, it is named different things depending on the site, think it is Dempster though).

Also - I am aware that this coat is extremely hard to wear, puffy and all, and not nearly worth the $795 price. But if you are Emmanuelle Alt-like enough to pull this off and of course not completely deterred by the price, it is still available at Totokaelo and in limited sizes at La Garconne.

Black Crane and Momoko Suzuki

A while ago Totokaelo featured a designer and the designer's home on their blog. I had never heard of the woman, Momo Suzuki, or her line Black Crane, but I loved her house! And her whole look! Her Serge Mouille wall sconce is one of my favorite light fixtures of all time. As are her Charlotte Perriand leather and chrome chairs. You can read about her whole background here on totokaelo's blog but I will sum it up short and sweet. Momo is from Japan, lives in LA and designs beautiful, simple clothes with quality materials in a small color palette and wonderful drape (or at least it seems so from the photos) and everything is made in LA too. And lots of pieces are 100% cotton, something I think is very underrate - washable, better with kids, etc. And simple details like raw edges and seams down the middle.

The prices are great too, even items under $100 (i know, what!) But some things do seem rather basic. Especially when lately I have limited funds with which to invest and really try to use them wisely, i.e. on key, striking pieces that are unique and special...not just a basic tee.
Momo with her Perriand chairs and a Platner table.
The Serge Mouille sconce and Momo Suzuki.
Momo on her cool couch in very cool sandals (more on those another day.)
Her closet. So simple - utterly cool.
That said, I have since seen Black Crane all over the friggin' place -- Mohawk General Store, Myth and Symbol (in Houston), Machus (in Portland), Totokaelo of course, and now even No.6 is carrying her stuff. I have had my eye on the Wide dress. It's sort of like a long t-shirt stretched into a dress with kimono sleeves. I think it would be great when it's worn slightly oversized (not tight) and then there are some jumpers and several different slouchy pants and shorts. And a few great dresses. The tees cross a line into being too flow-y slash boxy. Not sure about them but you be the judge. Below are some highlights:

The Wide dress - oversized
the Balloon jumper
Accordion Dress in navy
Long Strap dress in Aqua
The wide crew top in marble - one of the few prints
the square tee in white

No.6 moccasins

Currently obsessing over everything in the new No.6 collection. Far too consumed with making the impossible decision of what to buy to even remotely begin to blog about everything I love. So I'll start with one thing. These new No.6 moccasin clog sandals are at the top of my wish list. A two piece sandal with separate ankle piece with a tie closure. The base has a peep toe and is available in two versions - one with the leather braiding on the top, one with the leather braiding on the sides. I prefer the side braid version but they are both pretty amazing. And Totokaelo in Seattle has an all black version, including black sole.
The side braid version in bone (left) and naked (right). How to decide between these two colors?

The top braid version in sunflower (left) and desert (right).

The all-black version at Totokaelo and they also have one in cigar (right).

Here they are styled in outfits for the No.6 blog (I also love these pants). Aren't they great?

Michelle Williams: breakup style

I was very sad to hear yesterday that Michelle Williams and Jason Segel broke up. I am not the biggest fan of his movies but it's hard not to want the ultimate happiness for her. Between her real-life tragic history and what played out on-screen in Blue Valentine, I will always pull for her.  So this week, let's talk about her amazing style of late while she's on her Oz press tour.

1 - the Dior coat-dress worn to Letterman

2 - Backstage at Letterman. I LOVE this look. This complete outfit is apparently all available at Totokaelo. The scarf by Yohji Yamamoto is unfortunately sold out but his scarves are amazing. One of these days I am going to invest in one. And the coat is an all-leather parka made in Japan and sets you back 4 figures, by Sisii.

By the way, she makes wayfarers look timeless. She must be the only celebrity with one pair of sunglasses.

3 - even the Victoria Beckham dress worn today in Moscow

Here's hoping you find your happiness some day soon, Michelle.
